By now, you’ve probably heard about the Internet of things. In fact, these days it’s practically impossible to avoid hearing tech people go on and on about the illustrious Internet of things. Well, today I don’t want to talk about the Internet of things, I want to go deeper. Let’s take a look at something that’s a major part of the next generation of the Internet of things – the InterCloud.
The InterCloud takes a more focused look at keeping things connected than the far-reaching Internet of things. You don’t need to focus on the “things” that make up the Internet – it’s time to live in the cloud. The InterCloud is the “cloud of clouds” Sounds pretty impressive, right? Well, that’s because it is – it’s a peering of best of breed cloud to best of breed clouds.
The idea behind it is pretty simple – every cloud has it’s limit. It doesn’t have an endless amount of physical resources or an omnipresent geographical footprint, so what do you do when a cloud uses up its infrastructure’s resources? When this happens to a cloud that’s a part of the InterCloud, it’ll be able to use the resources of the other clouds.
Take Peak, for example. Amazon uses our cloud for enterprise storage. Many people don’t realize that when they use Amazon, they could be using both Amazon’s cloud and our cloud! The InterCloud makes that possible.
So, how about it? Are you ready for a future of living in the clouds?
